Our partnership with Green Amendments is to ensure they expand their mission using our technology as a tool for their organizing efforts to pass legislation that protects our environment. We appreciate the profound love and protection this organization is committed to providing the environment, and without hesitation, we offered our help.
Green Amendments’ mission is to ensure individuals experience health, quality of life, education, economic prosperity, and joy by having a clean and healthy environment. As the environmental crisis worsens and is compounded by environmental racism, the need for this mission is imperative. This is especially true for marginalized communities, who are often low-income and predominantly non-white, and are more likely to lack access to resources like safe drinking water, live near toxic waste sites, industrial facilities, landfills, and other sources of pollution. These same communities often lack the political power and economic resources to advocate for healthier environments and are disproportionately burdened by environmental hazards. Therefore, it is essential to address environmental racism by promoting environmental justice and ensuring fair treatment and equal protection of all communities, regardless of race, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status. This involves inclusive decision-making processes, equitable distribution of environmental benefits and burdens, and recognizing the right to a clean and healthy environment. Green Amendments aims to combat environmental racism and replenish and protect nature’s resources for our communities.
Maya K. van Rossum, the founder of Green Amendments, is known for her advocacy work, community organizing, and legal actions to hold polluters accountable and safeguard the rights of nature. She is also an author and public speaker, raising awareness about environmental issues and the importance of protecting the Delaware River watershed. She has received numerous awards and recognition for her environmental leadership and dedication to the cause. Her book, "The Green Amendment: Securing Our Right to a Healthy Environment," published in 2017, explores the concept of environmental rights and the need for constitutional protections to ensure a healthy environment for present and future generations.
Maya continues to be an influential figure in the environmental movement, advocating for the rights of nature and working towards a more sustainable and equitable future for the Delaware River watershed and Green Amendments for the Generations.
